If you're like most people who are planning on taking a tropical vacation in the near future, you're undoubtedly looking forward to soaking up some sun and enjoying some island-style nightlife. You probably already have your wardrobe planned for your stay in a St John Villa Rental, but visitors to the tropics often take for granted that the same personal care products that work at home are going to be appropriate for island conditions. Differences in humidity, temperature, and other environmental factors play a big role in what you should pack in your toiletries bag. Following are five things that you shouldn't fail to bring along when you head out to the tropics.

Hair Products Designed for Humid Environments

Tropical humidity can wreak havoc on hairstyles, so keep yours under control by using hair products specifically designed to minimize frizz. Also, if your hair has a lot of natural curl, consider simply letting the curl have its own way during the course of your vacation rather than trying to tame it. Fortunately, island hairstyles mimic the casual, carefree style of island fashions, so no one will bat an eye if your hairstyle is a little messy.  The sun is bright and strong in the Caribbean Islands. Wear plenty of sunscreen and reapply it throughout the day, especially after you have been in the water. Although it's tempting to overdo on sun after first arriving in the tropics, serious sunburn is a painful condition with the potential to have a substantially negative impact on the quality of your vacation, so be sure to limit your sun exposure as well.

Waterproof Makeup

Waterproof makeup is a must for the tropics even on days when you're not engaging in water activities. Regular makeup doesn't hold up well under humidity and heat, and no one looks good with makeup melting down their face. Many varieties of stinging insects live in the islands, so be sure to pack plenty of insect repellent. It's also a good idea to bring along a product designed to provide aftercare for insect bites to minimize itching and burning sensations in the event that you get bitten.

Unscented Grooming Products

Warm weather causes scents to be stronger, and this can be cloying. But the real reason to pack unscented grooming products is that sweet aromas attract stinging insects because they think the smell is coming from flowers that need to be pollinated.

About Me
Touring New Places

A few years ago, I realized that I was really bored with my normal life. I needed to get out of the house, see something new, and really enjoy my surroundings. Although I was nervous about the prospects of travel, I knew that it was a necessary step if I wanted to make things happen. I began talking with different travel agencies about what they offered, and a friend of mine recommended a nice route that I thought would work for what I needed. They were really fantastic to work with, and before I knew it, I was on a plane headed for an exciting destination. Read more about travel on my blog.
